Los Angeles Angels` unique talent, Shohei Otani, has been approved by the club`s medical team again to perform both his baseball roles - pitcher and Major League Baseball. The 25-year-old Japanese only played as a DH in 2019 after undergoing surgery at the elbow of his right-handed arm at the end of last season. However, in 2020 he is also expected to rejoin the Angels` starting rotation.
Otani started throwing in a special program back in July, but in September he had to interrupt his rehabilitation in order to undergo emergency surgery in his left knee. Now Shohei is fully healthy and, according to Anaheim, has successfully completed his experimental bulp sessions.
According to preliminary forecasts analyzed by answers for mlb predictions , next year Otani will start the elevation once a week instead of every five days. Which means the LA Angels may need a sixth pitcher in the rotation. In the attack, Shawhey will most likely be used as a DH on days he doesn`t throw.
