A record number of imported cases of dengue fever have been identified in France ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games.

Since the beginning of 2024, 1, 679 cases of importation of dengue fever into the European part of the country have been recorded. Moreover, during the same period in 2023, 131 such cases were identified.
According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, most of them were imported from the overseas departments of France - Guadeloupe and Martinique, where there is an epidemic.
Dengue fever is a viral disease transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes. The disease is characterized by high fever, muscle pain and headaches, and in severe form - internal hemorrhages.
The French health service noted that they are preparing for any possible threats of infectious diseases during the Olympic Games. They will take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
